Almiron has also revealed that he spoke to Diego Gavilan before he made the switch to Newcastle in the January transfer window.

Gavilan was on the books of Newcastle from 2000 until 2003, and the former Paraguay international defensive midfielder failed to make an impact at St. James’ Park.
Almiron is also from Paraguay, and the 24-year-old operates as an attacking midfielder.

The Paraguay international joined Newcastle from Atlanta United in January for a transfer fee reported by The Northern Echo to be worth £21 million .

The former Lanus star has revealed that he spoke to Gavilan before his move to the Magpies , and the 24-year-old has also admitted that when he heard about interest from Newcastle in November, he took it lightly.

Almiron told The Northern Echo: “I learned of Newcastle’s interest probably at the end of November towards the end of the MLS season I took it lightly didn't want to get caught up in it.

“I spoke to Diego Gavilan we wrote to each other and he indicated it is an opportunity you shouldn't turn down and you should go for it.”

Almiron is a very creative player, and with Newcastle struggling to create chances and goals, the Paraguayan attacking midfielder will be important for the Magpies in their quest to escape the drop to the Championship at the end of the season.
